Hi folks,
I have recently joined the online community and have had cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) at stage 4 for 5 years now. Since diagnosis I have been on various trials but am currently between trials and hoping to go on holiday. So far I have been unable to find travel insurance with medical cover. I have a GHIC and am travelling from the UK to Greece for 2 weeks in June 2023. The main issue with insurance companies in the UK varies from having an untreatable cancer to being off active treatment. I also have a fit to travel letter from my consultant. I would be very grateful for any advice from the community. Many thanks.
Hi Tam70 and welcome to the community.
A holiday sounds just great but as you are experiencing getting affordable, actually in some cases any Travel Insurance can be a challenge and at times the price could be higher than the cost of the holiday.
Comparison sites tend to use the same algorithms so getting a clear price can be difficult and it’s not that unusual to be turned down or told to call the insurers.
It’s actually more effective to call a few insurers directly as this means that you have answered all the questions correctly and in doing this a suitable policy can be offered and price given.
For my type of blood cancer and the treatments I had I had to be 2 years in remission..... but it took a year to reach remission before I could get any price but this is often down to cancer type, treatment and the resulting risk factor put on you by the insurers risk assessment - I am very open to infections so this is a high risk factor for insurers.
Do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread and this New Thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. You can also look through all the individual members posts in the group as well.

Thank you so much for your welcome and swift reply Mike. That's really helpful. I've been trying to get hold of companies by phone as I found going through the online system soul destroying.
I will check out the new thread link you sent me and persevere.
Many thanks
