My dearest brother has just been diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer. He had had a sore throat and a lump on his neck (which has now gone down). He is waiting for a course of radiotherapy (6 weeks) and chemo to start. Apparently they cannot operate due to the position of the tumour. I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience of this as I understand it's a rare form of cancer. What can he expect and how can I support him. He is one of the loveliest human beings I know and I can't believe this has happened to him. Penny x
Hi PennyandMichael and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your brother has just been diagnosed with throat cancer and I know what a difficult time this will be for you all.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend a couple for you to join. The first is the head and neck cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have throat cancer. The second group is the family and friends group, where you can share your worries and emotions and get support from others who have a loved one living with cancer.
To join either or both of these groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your brother's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi Penny. I'm Dani and I'm one of the Community Champs from the Head Head and Neck Cancer Group
I'm a four year survivor of throat cancer living a normal happy life after my radiotherapy. There are lots of us to talk to there; survivors and folk just starting along the road. We have lots of carers chatting too so come over and say hello
