Hi all thanks for the welcome, I completed my treatment for throat cancer on the 16 December having had radiotherapy and chemotherapy I’m now feeling much better and was wondering about booking a holiday abroad. Any advice would be appreciated as iv heard insurance could be very expensive

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community and great to hear that your are through your treatment. A holiday sounds great but yes, affordable travel insurance may be a big challenge.

Do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread and this New Thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.

If you have a current European Health Insurance Card, or you get a Global Health Insurance card (more information here) and you have opted to take an exclusion, you would still be able to get treatment in public hospitals when abroad. However, this treatment may still be chargeable at the time although it may be possible to reclaim some or all of the cost back once you are back in the UK.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Head and neck cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Text Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help.
