My husband has just been diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma and is about to start Immunotherapy treatment following WLE and SLNB which was positive.
I am anxious about the potential side effects of this treatment but on the other hand, know that he has to have it. It's all been quite a shock really and very overwhelming.
I'm also wondering if anyone on Immunotherapy treatment has been on holiday abroad? We have a trip to France planned (postponed twice already due to Covid) that the whole family was so excited about but am now unsure about going due to the risk of side effects. He will have had his 2nd treatment 10 days before going. The Oncologist has said that, if he's OK after the first dose then he should be OK after the 2nd and could then go on holiday. Obviously travel insurance is a whole other issue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Hi Lal Hunter and welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a stressful and challenging time but I do hope you will find the community a safe place to get support and ask your questions.
The Community has various support groups (discussion rooms) but I do see you have joined and posted in our Melanoma group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and talk with others who are supporting family and friends on their treatment pathway.
When it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from joining our general Family and friends and Carers only groups where you will connect with others in the same position.
A consultant saying he you can go in holiday and actually getting insurance is two different stories but do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.
Macmillan have many support platforms so do check out the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too.
These services provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and provide support for all the family.
Give me a shout if you need further help.
Best regards.
