Hello,
This is new to me, but I guess that my future with Cancer will mean that I may need to be in touch with others who have or are experiencing the same things that I am.
In Spring 2021, I did the normal return of my bowel screening kit expecting another period deemed ‘all clear’. Sadly, this time, I was recalled for a colonoscopy with the result being a mass found which later was identified to me as a bowel cancer tumour at stage 4. Later scans proved that the cancer had spread through my lymph nodes and was detected in my liver and to a lesser degree my lungs. Further detailed scans showed that this was the limit of spread.
I was placed on a 12 week aggressive chemotherapy regime which I tolerated ok, followed by a further 5 weeks of combined chemo and radiotherapy treatment. This treatment cycle ended mid December 2021 and I have now been in a recovery wait period allowing my immune system to recover ready for whatever is to come next. I will have further CT and MRI scans on Monday 31st Jan after which my consultant team will take decisions about what is to come next, either more treatment or surgery.
At this time, awaiting these new investigative scans, I’m feeling a bit like I’m in a vacuum and the future is unclear.
Im quite a strong person and have a very supportive family, but have been devastated by the way many contacts and friends have turned away from me, at the very time when I needed their support the most.
I don’t know what joining this Community Forum will do to give me advice or perhaps even help, but I’m willing to give it a go.
Hi RowdeScholars and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis but I hope you'll find the online community an informative and supportive place.
As it's divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help
