Hi

I am a 52 year old man and I was diagnosed with asymptomatic myeloma in August 2019 and all my blood tests since have been "normal" except for showing paraprotein levels in the high teens so I have not had any treatment yet.

My latest bloods showed paraprotein levels at 21 and although my nurse specialist assured me that paraprotein levels do fluctuate and as all my other blood readings are "normal" I should try not to worry too much I do have a nagging concern that this may be the start of my levels continuing to increase.

That's where I am at the moment, I will elaborate in the appropriate specific forum, but I am just trying to enjoy life in the rural part of East Yorkshire where I live with my wife.

Our daughter is a teacher in Lincolnshire and she is building her own life and we are so very very proud of her.

I was born with a condition known as Brachydactyly which manifests itself in a shortening of the fingers but I have read somewhere that certain types of Brachydactyly also have an apoptosis effect on myeloma cells and as you know, you grab at any slight straw that may offer you a little hope so fingers crossed.

I do worry about my wife and daughter, especially as my wife's Mum passed away from myeloma in 2017 and it cuts deep that I now have it.

Anyway, that's me, both my wife and I are good listeners so if anyone needs to vent please do feel free to message, it's good to let it out.

Take care and keep safe.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community. I am so sorry to read about Myeloma diagnosis but I hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.

Although I have been living and treated for a different type of incurable blood cancer for over 22 years you will find talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment path (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this unwanted journey.

But I see you have joined and posted in our Myeloma group as this will be a good place for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
