Hi. my sibling has been given a terminal diagnosis out of the blue and we are all still reeling from the shock.

They are still mobile right now but want to quickly organise a downstairs wc and shower in their current garage and have their end of life at home.

builders aren't  replying to our requests for the work. One did and quoted a scandalous £20k! .

Time is of the essence. Does anyone know of any good builders or charities that could organise the work for us? . St Helen's area. Merseyside.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your siblings diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging in so many ways but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups and when it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so can I recommend you join our Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones). You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

Having worked in the Construction industry most of my life the cost you have have been given for this type of work is not that bad.....yes its a lot of money but this is the price of work like this.

You do need to talk with your siblings clinical team/GP as they should be able to connect you up with their local authority ‘in home care team’ and they may well be able to help you out.

Could I also suggest that you call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial and benefit guidance or just a listening ear.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
