It's a long story. My wife first tried to see a GP in May 2019 and finally got an appointment in June. By July an ultrasound was arranged to look at her womb. A lump was identified and by September a Hysteroscopy was performed on what they assumed was fibroids. Another month went by and the symptoms continued. When we went back to the hospital they took a look and asked us back next day. Then they told us it was stage 3 cancer of the womb. They said it would be best to have a hysterectomy and we agreed. We were then told that it would be a more than six week wait for the operation. We went private , had the operation within 2 weeks  and were still too late as a little had spread to the endometrium. Chemotherapy started New years day 2020 but was cut short because of Covid 19. Radiotherapy was done in July 2020. A CT Scan in December apparently showed nothing. She had a number of problems in the last month and after 3 GP visits and one to A&E we finally got to see the oncologist this week. She said that the cancer has now grown around the bowel, into the muscle and the lymph nodes. She said that another 6 months of chemotherapy would be needed and life expectancy was 1 to 2 years. We were in shock and I really don't remember all the technical details. I am trying to see if I can get a second opinion or see if proton therapy is possible/advisable and even affordable. Thanks for reading this

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us. I am especially sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis. This is such a hard time for you both with news of the spread and prognosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you both navigate this very difficult time so can I recommend you have a look at our supportive Womb (uterus) cancerBowel (colon and rectum) cancer and Lymph nodes, secondary cancer groups as these will be good places to connect with patients and family on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so do check out our Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.
