Hi, I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer just over 3 weeks ago having metastasised to my spine, liver, kidney and lymph nodes. However results of lung aspiration have been inconclusive as to whether lung is the primary cancer and ive since had a blood test to check for a blood disorder and a liver biopsy. By the time I meet with my respiratory specialist and Macmillan specialist on Thursday for hopefully some more firm results it will have been a month with no treatment apart from steroids. I appear to be very fit and well considering and am worried that delays will mean any palliative care will not be as effective as if I can get some immediate treatment. This is all new to me and quite a shick but I am very positive and feeling strong. Any advice on how long the process takes and how to cope with waiting to see an oncologist? Thanks.
Hi Jasperkipper
I am really sorry to hear about the terrible news you have received, just remember there may be treatment available for you even at this stage so don't give up hope and always think positive. I know that's easier said than done but how I have looked at mine is, it's there I can't do anything about I am in the experts hands and they are excellent and so kind and understanding. Your feelings must be all over the place not knowing the primary site but keep your chin up and think positive.
I was diagnosed in March with NSLC and SCLC and it didn't take long to see the oncologist if I remember rightly mine was less than a week due to the nature of cancer. There's not much treatment for my type and life limiting but I try and keep life as normal as possible which for me is working because I forget I have the nasty C word sometimes.
I hope you get the answer to help you deal with it a bit better. Keep smiling and live life to the full.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, I have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and metastasis in my spine. The waiting is the worst part but take strength from those around you. I try to stay positive and fill my days so I’m not dwelling on it. Your lung cancer nurse is always there for support. Be kind to yourself and don’t think to far ahead, small steps to your treatment plan. Sending best wishes. You are not alone x

The waiting for appointments is hard work, I have been on my journey for over 22 years now and honestly there is no set time for this to happen but it most likely won’t be as quick as you would want.
