Hello.. I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer at the end of April just before my 49th Birthday. Up until now I think I have been able to talk about what is happening to me openly with my family and friends. But today I just felt I just needed to say it all out loud and not put it all on my family and friends. The love and support I have been shown has helped me remain strong and positive but some days I worry more about those close to me and how it’s affecting them too.  I have just had my 2nd round of EC and so far the side effects, although unpleasant are manageable. My biggest fear is for my 2 daughters and them developing breast cancer. I have a strong family history, my Sister, Nan and Aunt on Maternal side have all had Breast Cancer and there are lots of other family members who have had other types of Cancers. I am waiting for a Genetic Consultation but this isn’t going to be until August. I can’t sleep, worrying about the outcome for my family. Even if no Genetic link is found because of the strong family history, I am hoping my daughters will receive regular screening. I’m so sorry for the long, waffling post. I have so much going round in my head and just needed to write it down. I’ve never reached out for help in this way before so am feeling very anxious about posting.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us.

I am especially sorry to hear about your BC diagnosis and can totally understand the concerns you have about your daughters based on your family history but you are doing the right thing in getting a Genetic Consultation.

Cancer is all encompassing effecting every area of life. I have been on my journey with my incurable blood cancer for over 22 years now. I quickly developed the ability to deal with the things that were in my power to deal with and the main one was the battle between the ears. So having clear information is key and also talking with others who are on the same journey can bring another level of support helping to reduce that constant noise.

The community is organised into support groups so can I recommend our very supportive Breast cancer and Breast cancer for the under-50s groups as these will be good places to connect with patients and family on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
