GPs not really supportive

After 10 years of BPHD & prostatitis(constantly being told it was unlikely to develop into Prostate cancer)my symptoms worsened & PSA levels increased.  After 6 months an MRI & biopsy my diagnosis was confirmed & active surveillance recommended, with 6 monthly PSA tests & second biopsy on the horizon.Since diagnosis though my GP,who has effectively locked down since covid began, has offered little in terms of support. My latest PSA blood test results were outstanding for 10 days & I had to chase up but his attitude was that I should contact Urology team rather than him.So what role exactly does GP (the primary healthcarer) play ?

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your GP hasn't been supportive recently.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group, where you could post this question to the members of that group. They should be able to tell you who it is that they speak to.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
