I was diagnosed with a leiomyosarcoma last year & a stage 3 breast cancer .I underwent surgery for the sarcoma in 2020 ,I had breast surgery followed by Radiotherapy last month .I am a relatively fit 80 year old but am struggling mentally with the impact of two surgeries in a relatively short space of time ,has anyone had similar experience & can suggest ways in which I can help myself mentally

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your diagnosis and how you are finding it hard to deal with the mental side of this.

I have been on my incurable blood cancer journey for over 22 years now so I see myself living with my cancer not being defined by my cancer.

A cancer diagnosis can indeed be very challenging and worrying but you may find talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey will help you navigate this difficult time so can I recommend you join our supportive Soft tissue sarcomas and Breast cancer groups as this will be good places to connect with patients and family on the same cancer pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'. .

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available.

This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best ((hugs))

  • Hi Avagrace,

I was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in January, though I am 46 I have just gone through 2 surgeries and know how it feels mentally.

I have just returned ro work, though unsure of the.long term.prognosis.

I just wanted to say hi, there's a couple of us on the soft tissue group with Leiomyosarcoma that may give more wisdom than me

    Take care
