Hi everyone, My brother was diagnosed with stomach cancer last Monday and on Friday I had the results of my mammogram. It says I need an assessment and have got an appointment on Thursday at the hospital it will take 2-4 hrs.

since I had the letter my anxiety has gone through the roof, I can’t eat, I struggle to drink as my stomach is constantly turning. I have never been this scared in my life,

just don’t know how to calm down

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your brother has just been diagnosed with stomach cancer and this must be making your wait to see someone on Thursday even more stressful.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group which will give you the chance to talk to others who are at the same stage as you.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

We all have different ways of coping but you might find it helpful to have a look at this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical test results. I threw myself into doing things that I enjoyed whilst I know a lot of people find mindfulness really useful. If this is something that interests you take a look at this page from the NHS which includes links to mindfulness apps that you can download, some of which are free.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you on Thursday.
