Tumour on bowel

Hello

I had a partial colonoscopy in the first week of May, it was stopped because a tumour on my bowel was discovered very quickly, biopsies were taken and it was tattooed!

Since then I have had pre-op assessments and a CT scan.

The oncology nurse phoned to say that the CT scan had shown the tumour (as expected) and something near my liver that was probably unrelated, possibly a gallstone, but that I needed an MRI to check it out.

I had the MRI and still hadn’t heard anything a week later so I phoned up, the nurse I spoke to said that a letter was in the post regarding an appointment to discuss my results and treatment. I asked what the MRI results were but she said “that is what will be discussed at the meeting”.

I am now worried as the first nurse was quite informative and positive.

Also the appointment is a fortnight after the MRI, is that normal? Everything seemed to be rolling along and now it is almost like I have been forgotten.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A few weeks wait for an appointment for results following an MRI is not that unusual, from my experiences it’s actually rather quick.

As for a nurse not to being allowed to relay results this again is normal as this is up to the consultant, good or bad.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging and worrying in so many ways but I found talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey helped me navigate this difficult time so can I recommend you join our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with patients and family on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available.

This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.
