I have recently been diagnosed with three primary cancers. Breast cancer following a routine mammogram, then lung and kidney cancer spotted on the scan for post breast surgery radiotherapy. I'm booked to have a kidney out in June, and then there will no doubt be some lung treatments on offer. But what I find really difficult is that I go into hospital feeling OK, then come out in pain and with other immediate problems to manage. I am nearly 70. I just don't know if the benefits of treatment outweigh the costs. The MDTs seem keen to treat, but I feel like a sort of interesting technical challenge to them rather than a person, and my family want me to go ahead. But the thought of it is just exhausting. And I don't want to end up an irritable snappish burden.
Hi NOTSOSUREABOUTTHIS and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with three primary cancers and I can't begin to imagine what a shock this must have been for you especially as you feel well.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer, lung cancer and kidney cancer groups which are all great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support. Joining will give you the opportunity to find out about others experiences with treatment to help you make up your mind about whether you want to have treatment or not.
To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
