Good morning,

My mum has been in and out of hospital for the last 3 months. Originally she was told they thought she had liver cancer but was then told it was inflamed gallbladder. To cut a very long story short 3 times she was given a cancer diagnosis then the all clear. This week she finally had an appointment with an oncologist and has been told she definitely has terminal gallbladder cancer that has already spread to her lungs. They want to try and do a biopsy of her lungs but this can be difficult as they’re constantly moving but they want to see how aggressive this is. I live 2 hrs away and feel totally useless. She’s only 66 and after all the different diagnosis she’s had I think she believes they’ve got it wrong again. I just want to know what’s the best way I can be there for my mum. Her husband is 80 & is struggling with the news. I don’t have any siblings but I want to do the best I can for my mum be it practically or any other way needed. Any advice would be welcome! Thanks

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

It sounds like your mum has had a difficult time over the last 3 months and I'm sorry to read that it has ended with a gall bladder cancer diagnosis with spread to her lung.

I can see that you've already found and joined the gall bladder cancer group which will be a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer. When you're ready to post there you could copy and paste your post from here to save you typing it out again.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting a couple of other groups for you to consider joining. The first is the secondary lung cancer group, where again you can ask questions around treatment, etc, and the the second is the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your emotions and get support.

If you'd like to join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
