Hello all
I'm 63 and Ive been diagnosed with oestrogen receptive breast cancer which has spread to the bones.
I have a treatment plan which I start on Monday- letrozole, palbociclib and denosumab. Have been readingy about possible side effects.
Having bone scan Monday too to see the extent of spread in the bones.
I've accepted my diagnosis and have decided to take a positive approach and see how I get on.
Of course I'm hoping I don't get too many side effects and I want to keep on working my part time job helping run a charity shop if I can and I love it so muoch, but I'll have to see how I get on. I really don't want to sit at home anymore than I have done over the last year!
I've told work but have yet to tell my friends, colleagues and wider family. Any tips on how to do this well? I'm concerned how to do it as their upset is the one thing that will upset me and Ive felt remarkably calm so far.
Thanks.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and it's natural that you have questions.
I can see that you've already found and joined the secondary breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. When you're ready to post there you could copy and paste your post from here to save you typing it out again.
In that group they have a really great thread called positive secondary breast cancer stories that you might like to take a look at. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.
When you have a minute it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
