Newly diagnosed with breast cancer

Hello everyone

Got the results of my biopsy last Tuesday.  Unfortunately it is grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma.  I have had a CT scan and will get the results on Tuesday (25th May).  I live alone so it is quite frightening for me. I do not know the stage yet or whether or not it has spread to other parts of my body.  I am trying to be positive but finding it quite difficult. I have a copy of the letter sent to my GP but there are things in there that I cannot understand e.g. ER8, PR7, Ki-67 15%.  Are these figures good or bad?  I have no idea.  I have recently had my 75th birthday so I realise that I have had many years of good health for which I am grateful.  I am hoping that being part of this community will give me an opportunity to find out more about my disease and to share thoughts and experiences with others who share this condition with me.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read about your recent breast cancer diagnosis and it's natural to feel worried and apprehensive but you've come to the right community to talk to others who will understand how you feel.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the very friendly breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.

    Hi Thirds

I am new to the online community too.  I wish I could help you with the technical jargon on your letter but I don't understand it like you. However, having just been Diagnosed  with DCIS I just wanted to say you are not alone and Hello.

  • Thank you Wildthing It is good to know that I am not alone.  I hope that things work out for you.  Take care and think positive thoughts.  My surgeon says that they assist recovery.

  • Thank you for your help Latchbrook which is appreciated.
