Hello
I had multiple biopsies under GA for suspected vulva cancer.
I was in recovery and overheard the surgeon tell the nurse caring for me that she needed to speak to me as 'she has cancer'
When she went I asked the nurse (poor woman) if the surgeon had just said I had cancer, I was still a bit zombiefied from the GA and wasnt sure. Poor woman went bright red and said the surgeon needed to speak to me back on the ward.
Lo and behold, ten minutes back on the ward and up pop's the surgeon and another member of staff, closed the curtains, both looking all serious, and the first thing she said was "you overheard me didn't you" before confirming that she wouldn't say this unless she was sure but I have cancer.
Having overheard I wasn't shocked, and was still a bit zonked so probably an ok way to find out. Biopsy results to be conveyed by phone Tuesday which I was fine with as the bad news was already conveyed. Already talking about MRI and MDTs.
But two things are getting me
How can she say I have cancer before the biopsy results are in, and she was very certain
I am really calm about the whole thing, which I think is surprising people, but to me until I know what stage it is, has it spread etc I can't get worked up, that may change on Tuesday if things are bad and I am sure people on here understand there are degrees of bad, then maybe that might trigger a meltdown. I'm not in denial, I accept what was said.
