Hi everyone and I am pleased to join the group. I am 76 years old and have had a lesion on my chin for about a year now. I was seen by GP in early October last year and had a telephone consultation with dermatologist four weeks ago, the GP and me having sent photographs. Received letter today to say I am on list to have surgery but no indication of how long I have to wait. Has anyone else had or having this same experience, please? Thank you.
Hi oldie76 and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you have a lesion which needs removing.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the skin cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support. This isn't because I think you have skin cancer but because there you'll connect with others who have been where you are now.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
If the dermatologist thought there was any chance the lesion could be a malignant melanoma then your excision biopsy would be arranged very quickly. However, if he thinks that it is some other form of skin cancer/benign lesion then it is normal for the wait to be quite a long time.
It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
