Hi all, after a Bowel cancer diagnosis last year in the middle of what was already an horrendous year, I had surgery followed by chemotherapy. I am now struggling with numbness in my hands and feet. Don’t seem to be able to get any info or help with this. Considering having accupuncture to see if it can alleviate some of the pain. I have really struggled with a total lack of support medically and emotionally. My family have been absolutely brilliant, but i feel now that the actual treatment is over I am struggling even more, I don’t want to continue to burden them. How do I learn to live with a scan every 12 weeks, then two weeks wait to find out if it has come back.
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your diagnosis and ongoing issues.
A cancer diagnosis can be challenging in so many ways but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey will help you navigate this difficult time.
The Community is organised into cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer and Life after cancer groups as this will be a good place to connect with patients and families navigating the same type of cancer journey.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service can give lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
