Hi, my dad has been diagnosed with mds cancer I am struggling so much, dad is to much of a high risk for a bone marrow transplant and we don’t have any matches for him his been kept on the data base but he needs to start treatment soon his been maximum of 3 years how do people cope with this is the way of life it’s so hard

  • Hi  and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your dad’s MDS diagnosis.

A blood cancer diagnosis in the family can be challenging in so many ways. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and during my years treatments I have in fact had two Allo (donor) Stem Cell Transplants (Bone Marrow Transplants)

We don’t have a specific group for MDS but we have a number post in our Other cancers group and some have went through SCT and have posted in our Stem cell transplant groups.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

Thank you for your reply I am new to this I am not sure how to put this on a group chat with mds

  • Hi again, the best place for you to post would be in the Other cancers group (klick on the dark text as this link will take you directly to the group) choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

You can also put MDS into the search tool (magnifying glass) and you will see all the MDS posts on the site. You can hit ‘reply’ and post questions on any post but watch as some posts could be old and the member may not be looking in now.

Do get back if you need more help.
