Hi,

I have recently become a carer for my daughter who is 26 and has a cancer diagnosis. I   am struggling to find support for me. Are there any support groups for parents of young adults. I can only find groups for teenagers and she falls outside that remit. I am finding it emotionally hard and want to know is this normal? How am I going to return to work.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

We have a very active carers group within the community where I'm sure you'll get lots of support. There is also a parents of children with cancer group which includes adult children.

To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your daughter's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any problems navigating the site just reply to this post and I'll be pleased to try and help.
