Hi I’m new to the group. My partner of a year has non Hodgkins follicular lymphoma. He’s had this for about 5 years. I love him so much & soon he has to have a stem cell transplant. My dad had a stem cell transplant last year for AML. This is the first time I’ve fallen in love with someone who is ill & im scared, I don’t want to lose him. He’s shown me what life is all about & he treats me like I’ve never been treated before. Any tips on best ways to support him? What helped you. Also I don’t know if I’m dealing with things the correct way by not giving it head space that he might not always be here. Thanks all. x
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your partners FL diagnosis.
Having had two Allo (Donor) Stem Cell Transplants (SCT) for a different type of low grade Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma I understand the journey your partner and you are going on. As your father has been through SCT you will understand that it can be a bumpy journey but the rewards can be great and for me it got me into remission back in Sep 2026 for the first time in over 17 years.
The Community is organised into support groups and we actually have a dedicated Stem cell transplant group, this will be a good place to connect with patients and families navigating the same type of cancer journey.
To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
