Hi. I was only diagnosed 7 days ago, so things are still sinking in. It's very early. Grade 2 invasive ductal breast cancer. Had my pre assessment today and scheduled for a lumpectomy on the 14th April. Am I right to think the best thing is to shield as much as possible to avoid covid/sickness? I'm very anxious and I know as the date gets closure the anxious feeling is going to grow. Also why am I focusing on work and not the actual cancer/treatment. Thanks for listening

Hi, good on you for sharing, I'm in a similar situation myself. I had the lumpectomy 2 weeks ago. I'll be honest, it wasn't as sore as thought it was going to be which was a nice surprise. If you have any questions about it I'm happy to answer. Also I work in a school so I had the same dilemma with regards to continuing work, your in such a funny place because it's not physically affecting you so you could keep working, but if you do catch something it will push your treatment back so I totally get it. Personally I made the decision to stop working cause your right, you should be worrying about your health not work. That can wait. Whatever you can do take the pressure or stress off I say do it! Xx
Thank you for your reply. So glad your not in too much discomfort. Hows your arm movent now? I've bought a couple of sports bras with the zip at the front. Hoping they help with support at bed time.
I had a word with work and was able to work from home till surgery and then I will go on the sick for a few weeks to recover from that.
Everyone was right, the relief from not having to stress about being at work is crazy. I can now concentrate on being rested and ready to face what ever happens next.
I'm sure the nerves will creep in as the date gets closure.
Ye not too bad. Bit sore if I try to reach high places or stretch too far but apart from that I can generally do everything I did before. Just slightly slower
I've been struggling to get decent ones, I had pull on ones but they are too hard to get so after surgery so I'd defo say you made the right decision with the zips. I hope they help.
Glad to hear about your work, it will be such a weight off. Ye just focus on getting through this, I'm sure your work will still be there when it's all over lol
Ye definitely and that's normal, it's surgery for cancer, we are defo allowed nerves! just try remember for every step closer to your treatment starting is a step closer to it ending!! That's whats getting me through xx
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
