Hi im new to the group and feeling a bit lost, my father who has had previous anal cancer which they suspect may have returned also has stage 4 cancer in his chin and cheek, he has been given a round of radiotherapy and finished this in february. He is a smoker and drinks every night but is struggling to eat at the minute although we have tried allsorts. He has lost loads of weight and is also not wanting to take up any of the offers of help from nurses or doctors visits. I went along with him yesterday to a consultants appointment following the radiotheraphy for his oral cancer and asked the consultant if he would receive any more treatment after that one but he said no which is now making me wonder how much of a life expectancy my father will have?
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your dad's consultant thinks that his anal cancer has returned while he's being treated for oral cancer. All of this must be very difficult for you especially as you say your dad refuses help from nurses or doctors.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend a few that you might benefit from joining. The first two are the anal cancer and head and neck cancer groups, where you can ask questions and share experiences around your dad's treatment.
I'm not sure from your post if you are your dad's carer but if you are then the carers only group would be my other suggested group. If you're not his carer then can I recommend the family and friends group. Both of these are safe and supportive places to share your worries and concerns with others who have a family member living with cancer with the former being only for carers.
To join any or all of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any problems navigating the site just reply to this post and I'll be pleased to try and help.
