Hi so shortly before Xmas 2020 I was diagnosed with hurtle cell thyroid cancer I’ve had the op to remove my thyroid and now awaiting RAI treatment I’m dealing ok with it all but feel like I’m so paranoid about everything with my body now I found a lump in my armpit and I’m panicking about everything that I feel is new in my body since wether it’s a hot knee or dry skin and I’m scared to call doctors because I know there so busy with covid and I’m probably just overthinking everything. So I guess I’m wondering if anyone started worrying a lot more about finding new things wrong after getting diagnosed it’s almost like I’m a hypercondriac since getting diagnosed but not hassling doctors just having a constant state of worry of my health

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Although I didn't have the same type of cancer as you I can guarantee the one thing you, I and almost everyone else who's had a cancer diagnosis has in common is that we all worry that anything new we find wrong with our bodies might be cancer related.

With time you'll come to realise that some things really are just aches and pains but if you are at all concerned about this lump, and it sounds like you are, you should contact your CNS or key worker so that they can assess you.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
