Tappers

Hi, I'm new to this group and will be starting chemo on Friday. I would like to hear of people's experiences. I'm not looking forward to it at all and I'm sure it will help to hear of how people coped with it all.

  • Hi  and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us.

Chemotherapy can be so different across cancer types, I have a blood cancer and had about 800hrs of chemo and was only sick once but you are better taking with people with the same cancer.

The Online Community is organised into various support groups, this list is for our Cancer specific Groups

Have a look through the list then you can join a group by choosing 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

These are some useful links for you to have a look at:

Nausea, remember not to suffer in silence when it comes to nausea there are lots of tools available - but your team need to know how you are getting on.

Fatigue may well build up over time so take each day as it comes but at the same time keep some activity going as this does actually help overcome some of the fatigue.

Avoiding Infections obviously is very important but you will totally get this during these challenging times.

I would also highlight the importance of drinking lots of water as this will flush out all the toxins released by the chemo and protects your kidneys.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best
