Good morning

I've only just joined today but was diagnosed in October last year. I have stage 3 bowel cancer and I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy.

From the shock of attending a walk in centre after two days of stomach cramps to an operation to remove a tumour 24 hours later its been a whirlwind. For a while I thought I had stage 4 after Ct scan revealed a shadow on my liver. Thankfully this was a cyst and my diagnosis was confirmed as stage 3. It was told I needed 8 cycles of chemotherapy.

There has been interruptions to my treatment with liver function issues and covid but I'm back on track this week when my chemotherapy starts again.

It's been so hard having this in lockdown and I've gone from a positive.. Glass half full person to a teary wreck some days. I'm also fully aware of the impact cancer has had on my partner and loved ones. I've had such dark thoughts but kept them to myself to protect them all. I know this probably hasn't helped me emotionally.

I also have not had a good experience of my specalist nurse and do not want to have a bad experience associated with macmillan as I'm sure they are amazing. So I thought joining  the forum may help with that.

In talking to her about my treatment being stopped again she told me my cancer was in the bin and the treatment was only preventative. I felt like I was being seen as demanding just expressing my fears. I'm so grateful for all my care and I'm fully aware that I'm lucky with so many people having devastating news about their cancer, but it doesn't stop the terror you feel.

I cried after this call and questioned myself all day.

I'm aware covid has had huge pressure as a key worker myself I know it's been such a tough time for all key workers.

This wasn't the only experience and for this reason I've chosen not to call her anymore. So hopefully I will feel better having the experience of this forum.

Thanks for reading

  • Hi Loz70

I have just been diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in the lower region followin the removal of a lump. I have been waiting for surgery for the last few weeks and have had several issues - I feel your pain going through this in COVID as the support is very different to what friends have had in the past.

The emotional turmoil is horrible, im ususally a glass half full person, but this has really knocked me and through that it has affected my husbankd and family.

Stay strong, I only joined the forum a few days ago but wanted to say your not alone. Stay strrong

Welcome. I had a similar experience in 2017.
I didn’t have any symptoms, but a routine blood test showed some iron concerns. I had and Endoscopy and Colonoscopy and the latter revealed quite a large tumour. So I had a right hemi colectomy followed by 6 months of capcetibine therapy. I had no issues with lymph glands, but had EMVI which was a concern.
I had a tough time in hospital for 8 days after the surgery as my bowel wouldn’t wake up ! The Chemo was OK, but I did have to stop and start due to infections. One was an abscess on a wisdom another was pleurisy.
You are over the worst in my opinion, stick with it as much as you can, it does get easier

    good luck

Thank you for the reply. I really hope you have your surgery soon that must be a huge worry. I'm grateful I had mine so quickly and can't imagine still waiting for it to be done.

It's hard when you feel your personalty has changed and that you thought you would cope with it better than you have. But I suppose that's the nature of cancer.

I wish you well and hope you get the treatment you need as soon as possible

    Take care xx

    Thanks Ray

I hope your recovery is going well and your now in remission.

I think in terms of the surgery and treatment I'm getting there. I'm hoping that emotionally being on this forum will help me too.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

That's good so glad your OK. Sometimes you read things that don't help when your scared so good to hear all the recovery stories.
