Hi everyone it’s great that this page exists and I’m grateful for any help and support I’m also really angry that cancer has brought me here and that I need to reach out in this way at all. My stepmum has sadly been diagnosed this week with secondary peritoneal cancer having fought so hard with ovarian cancer a few years ago and got through it I naïvely thought that cancer had left her for good. I’m just struggling so much with a huge range of emotions from anger, despair, helplessness and although I have an amazing family I’ve never felt so alone in my life I’m trying so hard to put on a brave face for everyone around me and feel like I’ve got nobody to turn to to really talk about this. I lost my mother-in-law to cancer three years ago, I lost one of my best friends to cancer six months ago, and one of my closest friends is receiving end of life care as I write this again due to cancer it just seems so unfair at the moment so I’m grateful that this page exists and although I am sorry thatIf you are reading this it probably means that you’ve also been affected directly with cancer but it’s comforting to know that I’m not alone X

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your step mum has just been diagnosed with secondary cancer and I know what a difficult time this will be for you and the whole family.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your step mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
