Hello - not really sure where to start. I found out today my brother has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It has already spread to his liver and is inoperable. He has only been offered palliative chemo. I am devastated. I don't know how to help, what to do. Should he seek a second opinion - I/we have funds to cover this. Any advise, help would be appreciated.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
It's no wonder that you don't know where to start having just discovered that your brother has cancer.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend some for you to consider joining. The first are the bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer groups which are great places to ask questions and share experiences from others who have a similar diagnosis to your brother. The other group is the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you can discuss your emotions as well as talk about practical issues around palliative care.
To join any or all of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your brother's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
