Hi I was diagnosed with leukaemia AML back in December 2020
I am a young and healthy 58 year old never smoked and never drank heavily and quit drinking 6 years ago !! Just thought you would like to know my lifestyle.
I had intensive chemotherapy in hospital for 2 weeks with 2 weeks of monitoring. After the monitoring it showed my white blood cells etc were doing well and was allowed to go home.
while at home I improved daily my energy levels got back to normal and my appetite was back !!! I felt alive.
After about three weeks I had a second bone marrow biopsy to see how the treatment went.
Results of the biopsy showed that the 1st round of chemotherapy had been mostly successful although there was slight traces of cancer.
my consultant suggested that another round of chemotherapy was needed to mop up the traces.
I have now had the 2nd round of chemotherapy and feel really well again, but the consultant recommended having a stem cell replacement, I have read all the info but I’m not sure ? The risks may out weigh the quality of life I have now.
Just wondering if anyone would like to comment ?
