I have just been diagnosed seven weeks ago with myloma cancer, a form of lukemia. It a treatable but not curable blood cancer, I have a very aggressive sort, red blood cells very low. Everything came as a complete surprise as went to A and E with very bad knee pain. Specialist has told me that the average life expectancy is five to ten years. I am sixty years old.having chemotherapy at the moment. Because of poor immune system I am unable to go into shops, or go out to restaurants or use public transport, can't drive because of medication. Now we have the lockdown and have had the isolation letter, is there anyone else with this sort of cancer and did they go into remission.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining and so sorry to hear about your Myeloma diagnosis.

A blood cancer cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress, many questions and as I also have type of blood cancer I totally understand the challenges that lockdown brings, but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey as yourself will help a lot.

The Community is organised into various support groups so you may want to start in our Myeloma group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as a patient or family.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

    All the very best.
