Hi this is my first post and one which I had never anticipated having to make.
My partner has just started Chemo by tablet form this week from going from MGUS diagnosed last November it all seems to have happened at lightning speed.
I feel almost guilty writing about my own feelings as it is her with the disease, but I know what the eventual outcome will be and my emotions have ranged anywhewre from disbsbelief to despair to then feeling angry and a feeling of great sadness that just won't leave me.
I know I need to be strong for her and I don't like her to think that I can't cope.
Does this make sense to anyone?
Thanks folks.
Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am am always sorry to see folks finding us and so sorry to hear about your partners Myeloma diagnosis.
Yes what you are saying makes sense, but you don’t have to be strong you just need to be you and be supportive.
A cancer diagnosis like Myeloma brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions. Myeloma is very treatable but not curable and back in 1999 I was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer that is also not curable but AI am still here doing great.
I would suggest that talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.
The Community has various support groups so can I direct you to our Myeloma group as this is the place where you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as patient or family supporting then.
Follow the link I've created above then choose ‘click to join' when the page opens.
You can then introduce yourself and post questions selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on your device) you can also join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.
It’s always good to talk - our Macmillan Support Services provides lots of ways to connect. The service is open every day 8am to 8pm and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00. Clicking here will give you more information.
You can also email them, use the online chat and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
Our Online Information and Support Section is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.
All the very best.

Hi Georgie,
Welcome to the forum although I’m really sorry to read about your partner. A cancer diagnosis is always a massive shock and progressing from MGUS to myeloma so quickly must be really hard to take. You are very welcome in our myeloma group where I am hoping you can find lots of hope. Treatments are developing all the time and the medical teams are beginning to think of myeloma as a chronic condition rather than an incurable cancer, which I know sounds very scary. There is evidence of people living longer and longer with the disease. You might also want to look out for the Friends and Family group as I know there are unique challenges when you have to watch a loved one go through what they go through.
Wishing you and your partner all the best
Greg
