Hi, I had whipple surgery on 6th Nov 2019 in castlehill, to remove a 2.5cm pre cancerous ipmn in the head of my pancreas. I spent 3 nights in ICU and 3 and half weeks on the ward. I left hospital in December 2019 with 2 drain tubes and bags attached they weren't removed until Feb 2020 because of a bile duct leak. I lost 2.5 stone post op it's been a rough journey, I still suffer bowel/digestive problems, nausea, fatigue and some dull abdom pain and tender around my scar, the area around my scar is quite hard and most mornings I get up feeling like I'm carrying something around. I should have had a ct scan in April to check everything is settling internally, this didn't and still hasn't happ because of covid, which worries me has I didn't really have symptoms pre op, I'm left concerned and worry about every twyng or pain. I'm 56 year old male was quite fit before op but now feel nothing like I used to.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Community. It's easy to understand your concern. You might like to post in the pancreatic cancer group where you will find others who have shared experiences and lots of support. The site is due to go down on Monday for a day and will be read only on Tuesday, but the helpline, 0808 808 0000 is manned by experts, where you can choose to speak to a nurse who could advise you. There's also our Ask an Expert page. It takes a long time to recover from a cancer op and fatigue is something my husband still suffers from a year after an op and radiotherapy, but he's older so you might find it takes less time. Have you phoned your specialist nurse? It's probably worth chasing up the scan and letting them know how you feel, if you haven't already, and bring your GP on your board with it too, again if you haven't already.

    Hugs,

Thank you for your reply, I'm going to ring castlehill on Monday to chase up my ct scan. I don't know anyone who has had this operation until reading/finding this site I can relate to a lot of post op problems issues other people are having or had.
