Since Christmas my mothers right foot has been really swollen and this is causing great discomfort. Her left foot is unaffected. I would like to get her new more comfortable shoes, and I am struggling to decide what to buy, as obviously one foot is much more swollen than the other.
has anyone found shoes that they recommend for those with a swollen foot?
many thanks for any help
sandra
Hi LfcSandra
That sounds very uncomfortable for you mum. I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. By replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions list where hopefully someone with the experience you need will see it.
In the meantime you could type something like 'shoes' into the group's search bar to see if there have been any previous posts on this topic.
Does you mum's lymphoedema nurse have any suggestions?

Hi LfcSandra, has your mum tried Cosyfeet you can find them on line www.cosyfeet.com and also www.widerfitshoes.co.uk which specialise in Oedema and Lymphoedema. Both sell shoes, slippers etc which are stretchy but as your mum has one foot more swollen than the other perhaps a pair with the Velcro fastening would meet her needs as she could fasten them tighter on her less swollen foot.
P.S. I know how it feels as I’ve had Primary Lymphoedema in both ankles/feet since I was 14 and I’m now 65, although this type of Lymphoedema is a genetic fault and nothing to do with cancer. Now I just buy shoes 1 or 2 sizes larger and in a EEE fit, and these seem to work for me.
Hope mum will soon find something suitable
Best wishes

Hi LfcSandra, I am fortunate enough to be attending a Lymphoedema clinic as my cancer related Lymphoedema is around my throat and neck which is where I had my radiotherapy, (not to be confused with Primary Lymphoedema in my ankles, although she has said she could help me with that if I wish).
I was referred to her back in December for what I call my turkey gobbler neck LOL, and had my first appointment in February since then had 4 more. I’ve been given a range of exercises to do as well as a collar to wear for a few hours a day. The Lymphoedema nurse also carries out massage on the affected area and I’m happy to report that there has been a noticeable improvement.
Speak to mum’s medical team and I’m sure they’ll see that there is a definite need for some intervention as having such a swollen foot affects her in her day to day life.
Let me know how you get on
Best Wishes

Hi Sandra there is an online website called Cosyfeet who deal only with special needs footwear for swollen feet. They offer VAT exemption for those who qualify. You can shop online but for your first time it is best to phone and register with an operator for VAT exemption and when you shop online you can easily access this for yourself when checking out. If you have specific needs you will be able to discuss these with the operator. You can also ask for a catalogue to be sent to you. Cosyfeet Telephone number: 01458 447275. Hope this is helpful The sizing goes up to EEEEEE 6E wide fit which is what I take because I have very swollen feel with Lymphoedema. This is my first time on this site and I noticed someone has already addressed this Cosyfeet website. But I will reply nevertheless with my own experience. hope this helps.
