Hi, I was successfully treated for breast cancer last year. I had a lumpectomy with lymph node biopsy in March followed by radiotherapy in June. I am now taking Tamoxifen as it was a hormone receptive cancer. Unfortunately I developed lymphedema in the breast in September.
Due to family history I was offered genetic screening & I have a faulty BRCA 2 gene so have now been offered risk reducing surgery. This would be a double mastectomy with reconstruction if I wanted it but I have been told by my breast surgeon that my lymphedema could affect the sort of reconstruction I can have & the healing process. I'm waiting to see a plastic surgeon but wondered if anyone on here has been in a similar situation & if/how the lymphedema affected them so I know what questions to ask at my appointment.
Many thanks.
Hi Bellecat
I've just 'bumped' your post in the breast cancer group and hope you'll get some response there.
I've had a quick look through previous posts here which mention having a mastectomy but unfortunately their lymphoedema began after the mastectomy not before.
