I agree with everybody, it is so annoying.  Another thing is why should we bite our lip and agree and nod.  

How about "we shouldn't!"?

I usually just point to the truth, reality.

Thank you all. This is my first post. Reading this made me feel not alone. We had drinks at the pub for my husband's 60th on Tuesday and lots of people told me how well I looked - having read this helped me just smile - I wanted that one night to be for him as so much of our life is about me.
