Hi I am new to this and finding it very hard got diagnosed end of August 2022 been a whirlwind of test chemo and got radiation treatment on the horizon but also trying to get my head around it plus stay strong for my 3 kids and 3 grandkids plus my husband but as you can imagine finding it hard they are all supportive but I've always been the strong one and now got time on my hands as not working how are any of you getting your head around it all

  • Hi  Dotty

I have NSCLC, stage 4 from day one, done chemo, had radiotherapy and done immunotherapy.

I also had Reiki i loved it. x

  • Hi Dotty, sorry you've had to join the club nobody wants to be in. It's very hard to except our diagnosis at first. Talk to a good friend or family member, or macmillan support team and post on here have a rant and we do laugh as well. Be kind to yourself, a little pampering doesn't hurt. It will all become the normal routine in time. Sending hugs xx

  • Hi Dotty, for me the answer was time.  Time to think it through, time for the way forwards to be determined and then once you get into a routine with treatment you get a feel for how it's going to be.

  • Hi Dotty12, it's nice to see the ladies have responded to you they're a smashing bunch, but if you feel like forgetting about the C for awhile and having a laugh try reading, the good morning posts.

  • Hi Dotty,.We all have been there...it will just need a bit of time and you get used to it. Many of us are far behind our sell by dates. I have non small cell lung...with mets in lymph nodes and brain. Was given 10 to 12 months...well that was now 7 years ago. Still living live. Enjoy your reiki i did love it.

  • Welcome Dotty12. You'll find lots of support and advice here. Keep posting and letting us know how you are getting on. Don't lose heart. There are many here who have gone way past their 'sell-by date'. Hugs from Rainie x

  • Hi Dotty12, Just wondered how you are doing! I wonder if you are doing any better than when you wrote your post?

    Love Annette x

  • Hi thanks for asking Annette I am learning to take each day as it comes just had a lot to deal with as with my diagnosis  I also had come out of work due to the work I did so as you can imagine had a lot of change in my life to get used to but getting  their still getting used to putting myself first this I find the hardest so I tend to do it when I am on my own .The hardest thing for me is a lot of friends and family said it doesn't change you as a person which it doesn't but the same people  now treat me different and now starting to relize that my circle as got smaller  but yes I am a lot better  than I was thank you xxx Dawn

  • People don't know what to say. They are worried they might say the wrong thing and upset you. Some people will be so upset for you that they don't want to see you knowing you are ill.

Ask people to treat you normally. They will be pleased that you have given them a way out.

You are so normal to all of us here, the people without cancer are the odd ones on the forum?

I do waffle don't I? You will get there.

  • Hi Dawn, I agree with Davef (waffle) very good advice, big hug xx.
