Hi everyone my name is Graham or gray and I got diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung cancer march 2020. I was given 12-18 months then. I’m taking my chemo medication and all the other stuff they have given me like I’m supposed to.
I am a serving soldier and have been for 23 years. I have a loving wife and 3 wonderful children.
I have loads of questions and fears but no one to talk to or understands what I’m going through. I hope some here can help
Hi Gray, It sounds like this is your first post, welcome to the group. I’m not a frequent poster on here at the moment but tonight your post caught my eye. I usually read someone’s profile as well as their post as it usually gives a bit of insight as to where they are coming from, but it seems like it’s been to early for you to do that yet. I wasn’t sure which post of yours to reply to first, I chose the other one in the end then popped back here.
Im making a big assumption here so please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m thinking that as it’s 17 months since your diagnosis, that the 12 - 18 month guess work by your doctor is praying on your mind. What I should let you do instead of guessing and butting in is just listen and let you express the questions and fears that you have. I found when I did my list it had for me a calming effect when I read them back, a sort of sorting out of how I felt. In your other post it looks like you do the same just for yourself in your journal, sometimes just a note to myself is enough, sometimes a post here helps as you say reaching out to others, others who are experiencing their own versions of being incurable who are more likely to understand.
Take care KT
Welcome to the forum, sorry you have a need to be here. You will find that many on this forum are well past their doctor given sell by date and some have even passed it by so much that new treatments are available that didn't exist when they were original diagnosed. We all have fears, none of us has faced anything like a terminal diagnosis before we got the one that brought us here. Feel free to ask all the questions you want likelihood is one of us have been through something similar so will be able to help in some way.
Richard
be safe, be nice, be you
Hi stuart
im not working at the minute but they keep paying me lol! I take tablet chemo so I don’t have any lines. I think I’m lucky as I’ve not had that many side effects. I was working and cycling 5 miles to work everyday until I got my diagnosis up until then I was fit (ish) and cracking on with stuff.
all the best
Gray
