Hi everyone,
I have been muddled up with this site on my phone and have messaged in wrong groups so I apologise if you've read this before.
I am 39 years old and have recently been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer with multiple brain and lung metastasis. Obviously this was a shock and hearing the words we can "only try to prolong your life" was hard to digest.
I had a 2.9mm nodular malignant melanoma removed from my upper back in 2018. I had wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy which came back negative. Unfortunately 3 years on during a routine head scan for my eye check the brain tumours were found and the rest followed.
I've had 5 sessions of full brain radiotherapy and have currently had one round of immunotherapy Opdivo(Nivolumab) and Yervoy(lpilimumab), my next round is on the 28th of June.
I have always been a positive person and that is not going to change. I have to believe that miracles can happen. I am the proud dad of 7 year old twin boy's. My boy's were born prematurely on 24weeks gestation, they had a horrendous start to life spending many months in intensive care. They're both now non-verbal autistic with severe learning difficulties but they're amazing and my absolute reason to keep going. I can't even think of not being here for them and leaving my wife to bring them up alone.
Everybody's journey is different but I hope you're all having good news with your own personal battles. Don't lose hope because as my boy's have shown me, miracles can and do happen.
Has any body had some positive news lately with immunotherapy?
All the best,
Steve
The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us, but those who win battles we know nothing about.
Steve, I'm new here and just wanted to wish you well, I hope you are able to get some effective treatment. I have a 5 year old and can totally relate to not wanting to leave my wife alone to raise him. And also he is the one who keeps me going. Are your boys able to visit you in hospital? I wasn't able to see my son last time I was in the regular hospital, because of covid. I got special permission for him to visit me at my rehab hospital, though, and his visits were the highlight of my day.

Hi Annette,
Sorry for late reply but things have not been great recently however things are starting to pick up now. I am now out of hospital, 3 stone down but starting to eat more so hopefully I'll build my weight up.
My scan results were positive, my pancreas was ok and although the treatment had given me horrible side effects it was actually working and has shrunk my cancer so that's some good news.
My twin boy's are 7 years old but they're non-verbal autistic with loads of complex needs.
As for my profile I struggle to find my way around this site on my phone so haven't put things on yet. I need a new phone as having loads of issues with it.
Hope you are doing well.
Steve
Hi Patricia,
I wasn't allowed any visitors for over 2 weeks while in hospital. I had to talk to family out of the top window of the hospital.
My boy's are autistic so they wouldn't have understood anyway so I wouldn't have wanted them in the hospital. I managed to facetime them to atleast see them each day.
Hope you're ok
Steve
Hi KT,
Thanks for your concern.
I'm home now on the mend hopefully. It was a horrible few weeks but I received some positive scan results.
My pancreas was ok and although the treatment had given me horrible side effects it was actually working and has shrunk my cancer. I'm not sure what my next options are, I'll probably find out in a few weeks. They're giving me a break to try and regain some weight and recover.
Hope things are going well for yourself.
Take care,
Steve
Hi Steve82, I was just thinking about you and hoping that you had still been doing ok in your break from treatment, and that side effects were easing.
Time seems to have passed slowly in this last month for me but today I have a pre trial echocardiogram and presurgery checks to go to.
I hope your boys are doing well and helping to put a smile on your face.
Take care KT
Hi KT,
Nice to hear from you.
Due to my side effects I have now just started one drug(Nivolumab), I had my first treatment of that on Wednesday. I have stabbing pains in my head but I haven't had severe side effects yet and hopefully I don't get them.
My boy's are keeping me busy, they're very hard work and complex but they do put a smile on my face.
I hope all goes well for you today, keep us posted.
Take care,
Steve
