Hi all.
5 minutes into my chemo today I had a bad reaction resulting in instantly being surrounded half a dozen chemo nurses treatment stopped and an adrenaline jab to the leg. Once again I can not say enough how wonderful these people are.
Anyway I have been reschedule for chemo next Tuesday afternoon. My nurse as reassured me that it is very very unlikely to happen again and will be taking 3 times the amount of pre-meds.Im more than happy to go head however got to admit I may be a little bit scared So just wondering if this as happened to anyone else on here and how they got on with any further treatment.
Thanks for reading
Ian
\\ho o am sorry you had a reaction, i know it happens and they can reduce the amount you are given.
I did not have a reaction, though y first chemo on the Monday, caused a heart attack a few days later.
I was in hospital for two weeks, though when I see my oncologist, i asked her to put me back on it, she did though the combo was changed, and I did another eight with no problems.
They come across all these problems and as you say they know what to do.
I wish you well going forward with your journey.
Hi Ian, and a warm welcome to the forum, from a fellow T4 PCa patient, I've not started my chemo yet! "docetaxel," but I have been told mine will be in smaller doses over a longer period, 10 instead of 6, due to other health issues, and it may be I wont ever be able to have it, but I trust the nurses at chemo to make the best decision for me, there is always going to be risk with treatment, though you have faith and trust in your team makes a huge difference, best wishes with cycle 2, and let us know how you get on,
Eddie
ellie 73 thank you for your reply.
Sorry read about the heart attack but thank you for sharing very reassuring you got through your chemo ok.
Have just taken the liberty of reading your story and you have had it hard. So sorry to read about your husband and daughter, sense starting my journey I have always thought that it is tougher on our loved ones than us and thank god I’d did not have to deal with this in Covid. You have had to deal with all of this which my heart goes out to you.
Stay strong
Ian
eddiel thank you Eddie for your welcome and reply.
Its Docetaxl that I’m on lucky for me there are no underlying conditions so started on the full dose although it as was slightly reduced for my 2nd because of a few side affects mainly in my mouth but also tinnitus which is driving me mad. As far as I know I will be carrying on as it is with no further reduction. Just the increase in the pre-meds it’s actually 6 times the amount when I’ve looked properly.
I have total faith in the nurses once again I’m very lucky to live were I do my local trust have been fantastic. I was super fast tracked and 7 days after getting diagnosed I had my first degarelin infection, then 7 days later agreed my treatment plan and 3 weeks later had the first chemo.
After reading your story I can see you had quite a journey and wish you all the best going forward.
Ian
Are thanks, I was only telling you about the heart attack and yes I went on more chemo., with no problems a little bit of reassurance I hope.
Yes it is a scary journey at times, and none of us, know, what bumps we will have along the way.
Its been hard though I am here to moan and groan about it. Though I do wish my better half was still here, he was my rock and I his.
You are at the start and you can do it, and you will find support here.
I at times would not have got this far, with out this support.
I can say what I like, and only tell my kids what I want them to know.
Keep posting if and when you want to.
Hi Ian, you are welcome my friend, I'm just sorry I couldn't be much help, and I think everyone on the forum has been on a tough journey, My eldest daughter has just finished chemotherapy, having had cancer twice, both times we were told it was incurable, but thanks in part to chemotherapy, she's beaten it twice, and days after her all clear, her mum was given a terminal diagnosis and will start chemo soon having had surgery, and her team believe the chemotherapy will be done in the hope to cure, so my very best wishes for your treatment, I will have everything crossed for you.
Eddie
Hi Ian, Sorry I’m late to welcome you here but better late than never! That was a shame after your 1st chemo but pleased your Team are on the Ball looking after you. I’m so pleased your local trust (wherever that is) are looking after you. I must say, my Oncologist is terrific. I’m sure I would not still be here if she wasn’t in my corner! She got me on a Trial Drug under “Special Circumstances and I had to have reduced ori several occasions, I’m afraid we have to take the rough with the smooth but at least I’m still here to tell the tale! Good luck with your treatment hope it works welll for youj!
