Drinking

Hi, I’m struggling to drink. Did use a straw but pushed liquid out of my nose. Dietician said straw too forceful. She’s right because I was trying to get the drink down. I’ve been put on some drops to help but this is only the 5th time of using.(4 times a day)

I have also lost my voice and I’m using paper and pencil.

Anyone else experienced this? Oh, how I fancy a nice cold drink.

    • Hello Shadders, thank you for your message. I really should go but mobility is an issue too although I could do it. I think I’m very scared as this drinking and even eating is becoming more and moreKissing hearthallenging and I can’t think how they fix it. I’ve tried quite a few suggestions now. I had antibiotics for thrush in my mouth and throat and it helped but not enough.Thank you for taking the time tKissing heartthink of me though

  • Hello Annette,

thank you for your positivity about the hospice. It’s so kind of you to ask after me. I do hope you are doing well. My daughter got engaged on Saturday which was a surprise to her and it was just wonderful. Some good news!

They want a quick wedding( for me) but with this drinking thing, I’m very worried. Have to see how it goes.

    thank you again Annette

  • Hi Mags only just saw the post. When you  decided not to go to the hospice, that is fine it's your choice, they do have a lot of choice with various sessions going on, as others have said. Your husband should be trying to get counselling it does help family members. Maybe let him read your replies . You said you've stopped chemo, only you know how much you can take. I'm sending hugs good vibes and love xx

  • Hi Moi2,

Because I want to be at home, it’s not as easy to use the facilities of the hospice. I did tell the nurse today that I would like to go and get some support and see people like me but because this hospice is closer than the other one and I want to be at home, they can’t support me but I can visit. My husband is going to be contacted re support.

Oh yes, how happy were. Lovely day.

  • Congratulations to your daughter Mags! Lovely news. I do hope you are able to enjoy the day with them. Something lovely to focus on xxx

  • Thank you Shadders.

They came to us to tell us all about it and show me the ring so it was a fantastic day. I even put a nice dress on for a photo.

  • Hi Annette,

The palliative nurse has set something up for my husband so hopefully he will feel better.

  • Hi Mags, Congratulations on your daughter's engagement, that is really good news!

I am so pleased you can at least visit a hospice in the meantime, I wonder if like me, you found it a very helpful uplifting place and not what I had imagined?

That is terrific the palliative nurse has set something up for your husband too. Both hospice and palliative care do support the whole family, which is wonderful. I'm sure when he feels better, you will too!

    Love Annette x

  • Hello Annette

Thank you. She’s trying to plan a quick wedding now.

I haven’t visited a hospice yet as the one the palliative nurses want me to go to is far away. The one I want to go to is closer but because I’m not going in to either then neither one can give me advice. Nurse said it was silly but that’s how it is.
