I have a grade 4 Glioblastoma on my brain. It’s been my life for only 6 weeks, but seems a lifetime! Anyway,a good lump of the problem was removed from my brain, and Monday Ivsee the specialist and I’ll be on 6 weeks radiotherapy, and Ivwas told ,constant daily chemotherapy. It appears that this will not go away, and the aim is to slow the cancer down. Fair enough. It is what it is. Right now I am on one dose of steroid and two doses of anti convulsant tabs, daily. I feel relatively well.

my worry? Not the cancer as such . It’s the after effects of my upcoming treatments that concern me. Potential sickness, tiredness etc. I like my food, and it bothers me I may not. Does that make sense? Does anyone have experience and / or advice please? Thank you for reading.

  • Dear Mumf, I've no experience of chemo or radiotherapy, I'm immunotherapy.  But can understand your anxiety.  Everything you say about your food and sickness is a worry,  but all treatment effect people in different ways.So I hope for the very best for you. Sending hugs and best vibes xx

  • Thanks Moi. I appreciate your time. May I ask what immunotherapy is?  Hugs and good vibes to you too xx

  • Hi Mumf  immunotherapy is a group of drugs that work on our immune system,  so our body fights the cancer cells. It works on people with a certain type of genetic marker. Mine is giving me more time. xx

  • Hi Mumf

I had chemo and radiotherapy, though not at the same time.

I hand to change things that i was eating, everything to me was a metal taste,

A lot of people go for sweet things, though i had to have strong tasting foods,

Curry, Pickled Onions, Went back for kippers, Beetroot,  anything that had a sharp  strong taste,

I lie my food, so yes was hard for me, but found things that i could taste, each to their own, my dinners where covered in pepper, Soups covered in pepper.

When i felt a bit sick, i took the anti sickness tablets, but always had ginger  at home, ginger  biscuits, ginger beer, never drunk that in my life, ginger is good for sickness tell pregnat women that, the ginner beer was a god send i have to say,

Hope this helps, you will find out what you need, it is trial and error sometimes,

    Ellie xx

  • Thanks Ellie. That’s a positive start, and different to what a neighbour told me,who is suffering his own cancer right now. The help here is ,well, helping!Smiley Xx

  • It all depends on each person, when i started with the metal taste, had to work out, i need something with taste lol

Still had my meals a shepherds pie, but covered in pepper, i love jellied eels,i know people will be squirming, well, pepper, vinegar, omg lovely, carried on eating but i do it my way,

People where telling my suck pineapple no thanks pickled onion  was my preference, lol

Oxo cube crumbled dip my bread in it and pepper lol,

  • I had a friend with a Glio...he had chemo and radiation ...he still could eat and drink what he liked. Only tired from radiation ...it did keep him going for 3 years! Fingers crossed for you

  • Hi Mumf, I'm pleased you can have chemo and/or RT to help slow your cancer down so you can spend more time with family and friends making memories. I have no experience of chemo or RT as it doesn't work for my type of cancer as I have a rogue Braff gene. The one to ask, and I'm pleased she has replied to you already is Ellie! I'd take her advice before anyone else's.

I hope you can resist going down the "what if" way of thinking, it won't help. Also I would stay away from Googling it because their statistics are well out of date. It is not easy but try to take one day at a time and deal with what turns up. I and others have been doing this for quite a long time and I am always looking for something to enjoy in the day or something to look forward to! Good luck. When does your treatment start?

    Love Annette x

  • Annette,I am not googling or that kind of thing.Leave it to the doctor. Also, like you,I do take a day at a time. No worries particularly, apart from reacting to treatment, and that’s not really worrying, more ‘concern’ if you like? I am as positive as I can be .Got to be.I find out about treatment Monday. I will inform everyone of course! Thanks xx

  • I like hearing these things! 3 years is better than the 1 year I’ve been ‘told’ . Xxx
