Hi everyone

Yesterday had a very welcome phone call inviting me to start my Immunotherapy treatment on Monday 3rd October. I can only thank my Onco who must jump through hoops for me.

Have the blood test next week and a CT scan after 3 cycles. I'm determined to present my body in the best possible health (LOL) so have given up my beloved 2 daily scotch and cokes. I admit I had one after the phone call.

Out of interest do any of you have the odd tipple or are you alcohol free? My Onco says a weak scotch with lots of coke and ice won't be a problem. There's not a lot of things I enjoy nowadays and I hate the thought of giving it up but wonder would I be daft if I continued to have one?

Be interesting to hear your thoughts., Hugs, Barb xx

  • Hi

So pleased you are tarting your immunotherapy another step forward, which one are you going to have.

I really cannot answer your question, as i i do not even have a glass of wine, only when company turn up, though i am going to change that. i have given up everything else, sex, drugs and rock and roll, o surely we have to have some thing that we enjoy, I am sure one will do no harm,  i was never told to stop drinking or smoking if a smoker which i was,

We have to have some pleasure in this life, so if i was you, i would have one, better than none.

  • How come you end up in the shed so frequently with AA then, or testing out the bunkbeds? LOL!

I'm having Pembrolizumab and Lenvatinib. Infusion on Pembro every 21 days and a daily tablet of the other.

    Hugs and smiles, Barb xx

  • Either for punishment, or pleasure all depends, we did get into  trouble, by people,

I only had  Pembrolizumab, for me so so much better than chemo, every three weeks for two years if it done its job, i did the two years, and glad to say, was a first for my oncologist.

I hope you do not have to many hiccups with the treatment. Glad i caughtyou.

  • Hi Barb

thats very good news! My oncologist said one drink was OK so I might have a couple of beers per week. i am tolerating it very well and the odd drink doesn’t impact things. I don’t believe it’s a good idea to drink regularly or frequently though.

Hope all goes well for you. Any help I can give please let me know.

    best wishes

    Nigel xx

  • Gosh, aren't you lot model lifestyle adopters?! Grinning

I like an alcoholic beverage.  When this sh1tshow started March 2021 my liver function was high.  It was why I had the US and the rest is history.  But I thought "I'll show them the abnormal liver function is not caused by alcohol!".  So I stopped drinking or kept rigorously to a couple at the weekend and the liver function went up!  Since then I shut the bar Mon-Thurs.  But I still drink at the weekend and on holiday.

  • Well, my doc said...you're not dead yet so if you want to have a drink now and then go for it. And ...i'm still alive after 7 years!!! So enjoy your scotch!!

  • That's good news to get the immunotherapy start date Barb. As Ellie said it's so much kinder than chemo.

I was having a glass of red wine 3 to 4 nights a week while I was on immunotherapy and my team said that was absolutely fine. They keep a close eye on your liver. I'm not having any treatment now and look forward to my glass of wine in the evenings. We have to have some pleasures in life. Blush

  • Hey Barb,

Like a lot of people, I found that I naturally reduced what I drank over time. I can't take wine any more at all and just get so dehydrated with even a glass. But I think that it's really important to add as much enjoyment to our lives as possible and a drink or two - especially a diluted one like yours - should surely be fine. I don't drink in the week at all, but start the weekend on Friday with a glass of very good sherry. And a Greek meal is always followed by a glass of Metaxa. We all need little highlights.  I've got everything crossed for you for the success of your new treatment. Rainie x
