My apologies for my recent absence from our little community – there are two reasons.
Firstly, I was quite deeply offended at the recent unnecessarily heavy-handed manner in which the powers that be dealt with our “offensive” behaviour – I think they maybe should recognise the specific circumstances that bring us together in this place and cut us a little slack…
Secondly, whilst all of that palava was unfolding, I was also going thru the Scanxiety nightmare of my 9 month test & scans and whilst the CT Thorax/Abdo/Pelvis report was Stable Mable, the CT Brain reported 3 mets which, as many of you know, in late-stage SCLC usually signifies the beginning of the end…
And so it probably is but my Oncs are not letting me go without a proper “tear-up” as the proposed new treatment is RT Brain (planning session next Weds at CUH), followed by a second go on the original chemo of Carboplatin/Etopside (which apparently is effective at crossing the brain/body threshold) and continuing with the Atezolizumab. He even said that there are “other” possible treatments after that…
It is quite interesting in that SCLC is usually not treated with Atezo and coupled with the incredible response since diagnosis, my onc said that all normal bets are off because this is new territory, even for them… We’ll see…

Got to see the bastard and some pics of the bike as well!, hahaha hahaha.
I hope the weather improves enough for you to get about on your ebike and that it gets a better sobriquet than the bastard!

LECCYBIKE ARRIVES…
My new bike arrived from Holland on Monday and so the build commenced…
All was going swimmingly until it came to fitting a cover for the leccy motor connection on the front fork… O.M.G… I spent another three hours trying to sort it (hence it’s new name, “The Bastard”) until it ACTUALLY made me throw up!!! Oh Yes! In all the time I’ve had this bloody disease and with all the crazy stuff that’s been done to me, it’s a bloody electric bike that makes me throw up!!! Go Figure…
Rest time and re-start the next day after my nurse has been for bloods & the onc had called to sign off on my 17th infusion of Atezo on Thursday. I give it another two hours & then admit defeat with a plan to use cable ties and then get a pro bike mechanic to deal with it and begin to concentrate on the software side of things.
I know I’ve said this before, but why, oh why do young people make things sooo difficult for we oldies to understand? I REALLY hope when it comes to their turn that their youngsters are equally unpleasant!!!
So, the Bluetooth on the LB wouldn’t wake up & connect to my i-phone, so I was stumped! I called it some names, decided to ignore it for a while & then had a lovely cuppa…
Came back to TheBastard in the afternoon by which time everything was miraculously working and which, of course, I could not understand a damn thing! All of this, by now, had re-fried my already fried brain, so I decided to leave it all until after my treatment on Thursday.
All done & all good I re-address TheBastard… It turns out I’m beginning to get the hang of it so decide to quit whilst I’m finally ahead with the intention of the first ride on Friday morning.
All good on Friday so I decide to ride about 1.5 miles to a bike shop to get the mechanic to sort out the cover. All kitted out including new XL helmet (which is sooo big it needs its own postcode!), I set off happily but thinking “This is way more work than I was expecting” only to realise I hadn’t turned TheBastard thing on!!!!! Hahahaha!!!!
Got to the Bike Shop, briefed the mechanic and then started to feel REALLY unwell – oh cripes!!! Soon realised that it was quite cold and with the gift of WBRT Baldness, my head has absolutely NO protection – still, it took 30 mins to recover and the bike mechanic took another 30 minutes to ALSO finally admit defeat and put the cable ties back on… Yayyyyy – me no doofuss!!! (Or maybe we both are…)
Rode back home, getting used to it and dare I say it, actually felt reasonably comfortable with relatively little effort – it’s been at least 35 years since I rode a bike!!! Although I felt properly unwell again for the same reasons as on the journey down… Doh!
Piccies to follow… Watch this space
That is some saga. Some of it must become clearer or more obvious when revisited for the 3rd or 4th time I am sure.
Not entirely surprised the bike man couldn't fix it, probably the first time he has seen something that complex. An engineering workshop which you see very rarely these days I know, would have some talent with a different way of looking at a problem.
We often say a problem is making us ill but you have got that covered.
At the moment a triple bastard. Good luck.
OMG you couldn’t make that up.Looking forward to the pictures...did the air turn blue? An elderly relative of ours was watching a group of young men who were trying but not succeeding to get a car out of the ditch. He was considered very wise & they eventually asked him what he thought the problem was. He said, ‘The ****ing ****ers ****ing ****ed’ He was right xx
