Good morning everyone, and welcome to August 2026!

The chit chat thread is a space to talk about your day. From the weather, to appointments, to food. Anything that happens in your day to day life. A good space to check in with one another.

So good morning everyone, how’s your day?

  • Good evening

It is very warm here too about 36C. I had a fever since Tuesday and feeling nauseous so not the best of time. Went to see my GP and they think it could be UTI. Started antibiotics and hopefully will feel better soon.

Looking forward to cooler weather this weekend. My lawn is crispy brown but weeds seem to do well. Have deer coming at night and eating my roses and left weeds well alone Slight smile.

Are you back home Stacy ?

  • Chelle,

I would definitely send you some of our rain if I could, two days ago we ended up with just over 3 inches in less than 24 hours. A county to the south of us received 6 inches in the same group of thunderstorms. It's suppose to rain here for the next 3 days. The distant thunder is peaceful though, it helps me to get whatever sleep I can get.

    Stella,

Sorry to hear about your fever and the nausea, hopefully the antibiotics can help make you feel better soon!

I feel bad that I haven't undated everyone, I've been home for the past two weeks. Kind of a mixed report, I don't want anyone to think I'm not grateful for all the staff at the hospital, as well as my family and friends that helped me get through all of it and finally return home, because I can't express my feelings and heartfelt thanks enough. I'll never forget all the hard work it took for everyone and myself to reach this point.

That being said, my homecoming has been tough, I'm glad to be home, and especially glad that I have Macy now to help keep me distracted from so much, but I feel even more down than I did in the hospital. Not even sure how that can be possible...

Maybe I was hoping and thinking that being home would solve a lot of my issues, but it hasn't. I never want to go out no matter how much my mom tries, we've only been to a prosthetic appointment at their office and then back home. Adjusting to my care at home, and finding the desire to go places, is something that I'm struggling with. I have my first counseling appointment since leaving the hospital next Wednesday, so we'll see how that goes. I'm going there for the appointment, so that'll be the only other place I've been to.

Despite all my feelings, I'm happy to be home.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

    ~Stacy

  • Stacy don’t be so hard on yourself. You spent so much time in hospital, being home and getting back to some normality is going to difficult. I am glad you have counselling next week, I hope that will help you over time.
Now the rain you mention! Please send some here! All of our phones here in the UK sounded an alarm this evening with a major weather warning, and we have all be advised not to have barbecue’s or firepits etc. everyday there are wild fires, I hate to think how the wildlife is being effected by this.

  • I am so glad that you are home Stacy,  I hope that the counselling helps.  I think you will go out when you feel ready to go out.  It must be very hard to adjust to everything that has happened.  Lots of cuddles from Macy.  My four dogs Teddy, Cody, Nutmeg and Georgie and of course the birds Beth and Rip send love to you .

Love to everyone.  Hope you feel better soon Stella and Angie x

  • Hi Stacy, so good to hear that you're home and I'm not a bit worried that you have been home for a while and haven't contacted us until now.

I don't know how you've had the physical strength and the inner strength to cope with everything. You are the bravest person I know and I'm proud to be an acquaintance.

Chin up and take all the positivity that comes with your counselling (one of those words that is spelt differently in the US and the UK, I'm a linguist in my spare time!).

You can meet friends in time, just when you feel up to it. What about the raised beds, have you seen them in person yet. Your family clearly love you lots to do that work for your benefit.

I'm in England (I come from Northern Ireland) visiting my daughter, son in law and grandchildren and it was so hot here that I haven't been able to leave the house as I'm having a little heart trouble at the moment. As someone as said, the government sent everyone a message to not use barbeques or light fires because the ground is tinder box dry and wildfires are springing up frequently. There's one about 5 miles away from us and the wind changed direction 2 nights ago and we could all smell smoke. The fires are moving so quickly that there's fire on one side of a field and in a couple of seconds the fire has spread to the other side of the field. Thankfully the wind must have changed direction again during the night so we didn't have to up sticks and flee during the night.

Can't imagine the amount of rain you're having, it's of biblical proportions!

Take care Stacy and give my best wishes to your family.

  • Hi Stacy

Lovely to hear from you. I can concur about feeling more depressed when discharged back home. I certainly felt that way for quite a while. Just believe you will get there with all the helps  and love from your family and Macy.

Winston recently had a major scare. He saw a small deer in the back garden the first time in his life. He peed down his legs, then ran around scarred, eventually went to hide under a desk . He refused to come downstairs for about 24 hours. My conclusion is Winston is not the most courageous cat in the village. Slight smile

How are the raised beds? Did you managed to see them? Are you still writing a journal? I am watching ‘ my brilliant career’ on Netflix which is a bout a young lady in Australia who wants to be a writer.

We have not had any rain since mid June so really could do with some of yours.

Hope your counselling session goes well and you will go out when you are ready.

  • Hi  ! Sorry haven't been here in a while, just living life. I am so glad you are still here, as many are not. Hope you don't feel so hot today? It's winter here as you know...well 16 degrees today lol. I am still doing fine and promist to come back here more often. Pet

  • Great to hear from you Pet, if our winters were within 5° of your "cold" winter's day I'd be smiling like a Cheshire cat as would everyone on this forum!

Today the heatwave has broken and it's a mere 24° and mostly cloudy. Still no rain though.

I'm so pleased to know that you're keeping fine.

  • Hi Stacy, you probably have no idea how much you impact, inspire and give hope to others when you post. I hope your therapist helps you to open up again and accept yourself as the wonderful person you are. How are those nephews and nieces of yours?

The latest heatwave here has thankfully left us with tolerable temperatures of 26 degrees now. Not good with heat anymore.

Stella sorry to hear you are poorly, but you will bounce back in no time. Angie, still look like Mike Tyson or things improving?

  • I would give you all a huge hug if I could! Hugging I seriously can't say thank you enough for everyone's warm thoughts. Some small part of me thought being back at home would just magically solve a lot of my emotional and phycological issues, but that just hasn't been the case for me.

As for my raised vegetable beds, yes I've been picking what I can from them, but I haven't been spending much time out there. Each one of my raised beds needs to be rebuilt, which of course won't happen now. I can't reach everything, even with the lift feature on my chair, I can only access them from the side, because I'm always parallel with the beds. I can't really lean forward or to the side, so it's just what I can safely reach. One of my brother in laws and my dad have a plan on how they can be designed better for me.

My niece and nephews were here the day I came home, I was welcomed to a small homecoming party, mainly just my family, two of my closest friends, and a couple of neighbors that we're really great friends with.

How are you doing Stella? Poor Winston, let's just hope that he finds his courage for the next time that pesky deer visits your garden for a snack. I didn't know about any of this while I was in the hospital, but apparently there's been several coyotes hanging around our development this summer. Everyone has been keeping a close eye on their pets and making sure they're not outside alone, or too far from the houses. Now I'm afraid every time Macy is outside...

I'm still writing in my journal and I do find that to be helpful, because it opens me to release certain feelings and emotions about everything that I otherwise wouldn't share with anyone. I'll never go back and read it, but maybe someday my family will and they'll be able to better understand the emotional and physical toll this has had on me.

Anyway, I'm trying to get back into a much more positive routine, but it's a slow going process.

    ~Stacy
