  • Good evening

How is everyone doing? I was given a discharge date of next Monday! Very excited. I am doing well in general. The only downside is the physio wants me to sit for 15mins and it is so painful. Cold sweat  yuk!
The hospital foood is actually pretty good here. Had beef masa man curry tonight.

  • That is the best news

Get those red shoes tapping, as Dorothy would say, there is no place like home!

Hopefully the more sitting you do the easier it will get, but I can only imagine how painful this must be.

I’ve been quiet this month. I had my CT scan yesterday, mine are yearly at the moment, which is great, but 12 months is a long time for any changes! For the past 11 years I have been going to the same hospital, and since Covid the scanner has been in a mobile unit and to get to it I have to walk through a corridor where there are pictures of people from time gone past. One picture is of my grandfather and his sister outside the family shop. I touch it as I pass, a bit of good luck, and it has become a bit of a ritual. This CT scan was in a different hospital across the other side of town. My ritual has been broken, but I hope my good luck wasn’t broken with it.

It has made me wonder if anyone else have good luck rituals they do before a scan?

  • Good morning.  That is excellent news Stella and I hope the sitting gets easier each day for you.  Winston will be so pleased to see you.  Funny Chelle how we all have our little quirks.  I like to wear a pair of earrings that my Mom gave me.  My lucky earrings.  I truly hope that your ritual has not been broken and that your scan is good news.  How are you doing Stacy?  Hope everyone is well.  I am sick of the rain my dogs are constantly treading mud through the house yuk.

  • That's wonderful news Stella, there's better feeling than being back at home in your own bed! Slow and steady wins the race in sitting up a little longer each time, just keep working at it and you'll get there, I promise!

Angie, I completely agree with you about how peaceful a warm fire can be during winter. My parents and I will often turn the TV off and just read or talk by the fireplace, and it's the best feeling ever. This weekend much of the US will receive a crazy amount of snow, the Ohio valley could see 8 to 18 inches of snow if the storm pushes more to the north. The grocery stores are starting to get hit hard from people stocking up before it hits on Saturday and Sunday.

Hi Chelle, I wear a cross necklace that used to be my grandmas for luck. I started wearing it after I was originally diagnosed cancer, as with Lee my mom gave it to me, and I've worn it ever since.

Good morning Lee, I'm doing okay. I'll trade you snow for your rain and warmer temps! It's been over a month since the surgery for my stoma's, and I have another follow up appointment next Friday when we could possibly find out a date when the amputation will be done. My anxiety and fear will only get worse, so part of me wishes I can delay it indefinitely.

I hope everyone is having a good week, and keep warm this weekend if you'll have snow and frigid temps!

  • I love the idea of the jewellery Lee and Stacey. Maybe that is something I should think about going forward. I wish I could share the photo of my grandfather outside his shop. He must of been about 20, so very handsome.

Stacey I can’t imagine what you are going through with this up and coming surgery. I know we will all be thinking of you here x

  • Hi everyone, it is interesting to read about all your good luck rituals. Maybe I can find something for myself although it won't be earrings or a necklace. Perhaps a good luck mascot from one of the grandchildren. Why can't you share the photo Chelle? Good news about going home Stella, that's the place to be. Good luck to everyone with appointments and treatment.

    Patrick xx

  • It’s in the guidelines Patrick, we cannot post pictures of other people, although of course my grandfather has passed away, with my great aunt in the photo as well it would not be right to do so.

I think a mascot from your grandchildren is a very good idea x
