Whatever we can plan, do and enjoy, it gets us away from our day-to-day routine. Whether near or far, let's share our experiences, snapshots etc. How did we manage? Insurance? Help at home and abroad...

  • Hi Steve

Welcome! I remember years ago one of my patients he follows England football team too. For the World Cup at South Africa, he told me he bought semifinal and final tickets. I said he was very optimistic!

How was Serbia? I have been to Croatia and really enjoyed it. Very friendly people and great food and wine. I heard great things about Albania too.

  • Hi @Steve0793ad1 and a warm  welcome from me to the forum, I'm not sure how many football fans are amongst us, but getting away is popular with the guys.

Awww thanks Lee2, we're moored up safely in Tobermory harbour out of the worst of the weather, till it eases, how are you doing my friend?.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Serbia was OK, only really there for 3 days and one of those was the Football! Country still recovering from the Wars following split of Yugoslavia, and the buildings still have their “scars”.

However expected a lot of “feedback” because of Kosovo conflict (now that is a beautiful country) but absolutely no worries.

Good food, good wine, cheap beer and England winning 5-0 made it a great little trip Beers

  • South Africa was the best trip I’ve made and one of the places I would have liked to return to. And yes, I too bought tickets for seven matches right to the final but only used 4 because of the Germans in Rustenberg.

I did make plans for US next year but a bit “subject to” - here’s hoping.

I see you mention patient and refer back to 2010 - are you a nurse on the oncology team?

  • Cheers Eddie and Sheila - good to meet you.

Appreciate football is not everyone’s cup of tea but I lucky that my Good Lady travels with me to all the matches (she’s been to over 100 England away games now) and trust me it’s all about the travel, not the football!

Hope all is well with you both

  • Hi Steve, nice to see a new face here, despite the circumstances and one who evidently likes exploring new places. I am currently in Thailand for four weeks and don't regret it so far despite my initial misgivings. I watch England on the telly but no more. What do people think about hiring a German manager (I live in Germany)? I personally think it's okay at club level but not for the national team.

  • Morning Steve,  that's fab you and your lass get away to so many  matches, and I will have everything crossed you both get to the US, next year. In my younger days I loved football, going to as many matches, especially away games, as I could.. Then along came the kids, as the premier league started and prices shot up, so they came first, and thank you my friend, Sheila's great and I'm doing ok, I'm currently on holiday with family, on a cruise around Mull, our 8th holiday of the year, with a couple more to follow, hopefully,

  • Morning/afternoon Patrick, good to hear you arrived safely, and what glorious sunny weather for you to enjoy in beautiful surroundings, and it's normal for the trepidation to visit us, but I'm certain we'd regret it more not going, and regret is a horrible thing. As for England having a foreign manager, though I've no interest in football, surely being English should apply to the manager as well.

  • I love South Africa too. We visited several times, great scenery, lots of beautiful vineyards to visit. I was a dentist for many years Smiley

Everything crossed for the US trip next year. Is it the World Cup ? I plan to go to Costa Rica next summer if things are stable.

  • Thanks Eddie, are you mid-cruise now or still safely at anchor? Enjoy the rest of it anyway
