On August 29 2024 I was told I had throat cancer, 10 days later I had a scan and biopsy, scan showed a second primary cancer in the lung. Couldn't get through the neck to do a lung biopsy so put in a tracheostoma to help me breathe too.
Fast tracked to radiotherapy and concurrent chemotherapy for the throat, bought my first walking stick just before Christmas.
Couldn't eat or drink apart from sips of water and at risk of infection, still said family could come, helped granddaughter unpack her presents, best Christmas for ages. Gradually regained strength, put on weight, left walking stick waiting for a rainy day and started longish walks.
Today...
.. attacked foundation of former oven with sledgehammer, worked up an appetite and am now bloody hungry and going for a Chinese and a few beers.
It's worth fighting! I wish you all a lovely evening.
Hi Patrick, I love this positive post from you, I hope you now go from strength to strength! Hi Ellie, If your brother can eat a little now I hope he will steadily increase the amount so he can once again enjoy his food and build up his strength! Has his treatment finished or still ongoing!
I can hardly believe we are about to start yet another month on Tuesday! Where has the time gone! Roll on light summer nights!
Love Annette x
That’s great Gilpat I hope you enjoyed your Chinese and beers, you definitely earned them.
I have a walking stick that I have to use occasionally. It belonged to my grandmother, when she died my mum kept it and she had to use it when she got cancer, and I kept it when she passed away, never thinking that just 12 months later I would have need of it myself.
Well done Patrick! You have come such a long way! I also love BBQ looking forward to the summer days x
Thanks Stella, sounds like you had a good time on your holiday, now back into the normal swing of things?
Patrick xx
Hi Patrick
It is back to the chemotherapy again tomorrow. BUT I have already booked another holiday in June to keep me going.
x
Hi Stella are you going to Zambia in June?
Lee 2 x
My plan is going to the Italian lakes with my mum in June as she always wants to go there. Then going to Zambia in July for 2 weeks. But it all depends on whether the chemo goes according to plan and scan shows stability at the end of May. Just have to hope for the best.
Hi Stella, glad you enjoyed your break and good for you booking for June, where are you off to? I think we need to have something to look forward to & what better than a holiday!! Good luck with the chemo.
Anyone else booked a break? We had to cancel our usual winter break to Spain but we have booked a 2 week break in between Scarborough and Filey for June. It is a lot warmer there than here in Scotland!! I just love the lighter nights!
Love to all. Keep up the good work Patrick!
Love Annette x
